I'm planning to buy myself a house to make home as some of you who follow my blog may know. It is very expensive to get a new house, and for those that have already luckily got a house but are disatisfied with its current condition may think about some upgrading and renovation on your existing homes, e.g, attic insulation, double-glazing for the windows, or even a new patio.

In the case of attic insolation, it is a great way to increase resale value and energy efficiency in your home. Foil insulation or aluminum foil insulation is inexpensive and easy to install. It is not harmful to your skin or your lungs.

Foil insulation reflects the radiant heat away from the surface and helps reduce energy bills and keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

If you're interested in upgrading your home with an attic insulation, then you may want to check out EcoFoil who's got a wide range of services available to you. on their website, there'remany installation manuals and technical data sheets to help you understand the benefits and advantages of foil insulation.

If you're doing your house over and would like to share your experience with us, please contact me.

Happy May Day, everyone!

I have post a couple of reasons for you to visit here and here, now here is reason No.3 why you should visit the Shanghai World Expo.

The seven most popular pavilions during Expo 2010 Shanghai's test run as they call it "soft openning", which ended on Monday, are the United States, Australia, Spain, France, Japan, Thailand and Italy, according to the Expo organizers.

The most popular pavillion, however, is of course China's very own, the Oriental Crown.

But the list omits China's "Oriental Crown" (as we're talking about foreign pavillions here), which trumps the others by a huge margin. Many pavilions had still not opened as of Monday.

The rankings also exclude countries that have been highly anticipated but only opened for several hours, such as the United Kingdom. The UK had to close its eye-catching "Seed Cathedral" within three hours last Tuesday due to overcrowding, but it was operating again on Monday, with a sign outside warning people of a three-hour wait.

There're about 150 pavillions to choose from at the Expo site, and each of them holds its unique attraction. What's more you can almost literally go to so many different countries at one place, so i'd seriously urge you to visit there. Cos i'm gonna be there myself.

Looking for someone as an interpreter or tour guide? contact me if you dare!

here are some of comments:

"We're easily identifiable from our (Thai temple-style) structure," she said. "And we made our three exhibits interactive and high-tech, so word-of-mouth probably helped."

Shanghai resident Fan Yaoqi, 40, who was photographing the Spain Pavilion, said: "The first thing that draws Chinese people is the exterior, because we don't know much about Spain. But if it's beautiful, we want a photo with it."

Made from patterned wicker and designed by Benedetta Tagliabue, the sprawling 8,500-square-meter pavilion plans to have flamenco dancers among its performers.

"We've also got three movies by three famous Spanish filmmakers and people seem very interested in that," said pavilion spokesperson Yang Yue.

some facts:

A total of 100,000 people visited The Expo on Monday, taking the total number of visitors for the six-day period to 1.1 million.

I'm looking for a house, or rather a home. I have rented houses so far, and it's really not ideal for me. one of the things that I hate the most generally is the deco that i dislike and yet I could do nothing with it because I'm renting.

Since I'm getting my own place, I've already began to seach over the internet and try to find all the things that I may need and the styles that may take my fancy. I check pretty much everything that a new home would involve: paint, doors, sinks, locks and furnitures...etc..., you get the idea...

I found Mr Direct Int, which sells stainless steel sinks which are most commonly used in kitchens. The stainless steel sink matches well with most appliances, and is easy to maintain.

Because the company manufacture their own sinks and send them directly to the customers, they are able to offer sinks that are far superior to their competitions, at a price that is very competitive.

I quite like a few products on their site, and may end up ordering some as they would do same day shipping for most orders, I hate waiting!

The other thing that I feel that I could trust the company is that it's better business bureau accredited.

If you're getting a new home or remodeling your home and need some kitchen sinks or other products, you may want to check out Mr Direct International!

As some of you many know that I have moved to China for quite some time now, things are going smoothly, and I'm looking for a permant place as my home. Things are not as cheap as some of you may think, take property for instance, it'd easily set you back 1 million RMB (about 130,000 USD or 100,000 UK Sterling) normally to get a decent apartment here in Guangzhou. The apartment you get for that kind of price would be like just normal. To be honest, with this much money, I can easily get a decent apartment in the UK and a small car to go with it. The property market is in the height of its boom, and without any help from the government here, I'd have to work pretty hard to become a homeowner.

However, if you live in the United States of America, you're in luck. Because if you're a first-time homebuyer, or one who has not owned in the last three years, you can receive up to an $8,000 tax credit. Now this is the kind of real estate tax benefit I'd like to have.

If you go to the page, you can check the video there, it gives very much inside information about the real estate tax benefit. I find it very useful.

If you do not belong to the category stated above, don't worry, there's more: Homeowners who have lived in a current home consecutively for 5 of the past 8 years can receive up to a $6,500 tax credit.

Please note that there's a restriction on income levels. The income limits are now $125,000 for singles, $225,000 for married couples with a $20,000 phase-out of the credit for both.

One more important piece of information: There may be no future extensions, so all qualified homebuyers are urged to act and have a written, binding contract by April 30, 2010 (close by June 30, 2010) .

So guys, I hope you get the help you deserve. Stay tuned for my homebuying experience.

You don't get this kind of opportunity often, not in China or anywhere else.

According to the ChinaDaily, Chinese people will soon have access to a site previously closed to the public: a discarded nuclear plant built into the world's largest artificial cave in Southwest China's Chongqing municipality.

The plant, at the mountainous Baitao town of Fuling district, was built into the huge cave that covers 104,000 square meters.

Authorized by then-Chinese Premier Zhou Enlai, the plant was to be built into a nuclear raw material base. Its construction started in 1966, but in 1984 the Central Military Commission called off the project due to a comparatively peaceful world situation at that time.

The cave was designed to withstand thousands of tons of TNT explosives and 8-magnitude earthquakes. More than 60,000 soldiers participated in the construction of the plant and hundreds of them died during the construction, according to local media reports.

Li Tingyong, director of Fuling Tourism Bureau, said on Monday the 816 nuclear plant is a precious historical heritage site, which is home to many touching stories.

"To build the nuclear plant into a tourist attraction featuring national defense education is significant. During their visits there, tourists can learn real nuclear knowledge," he said.

From April 23 to 25, when a tourism trade fair will be held in Fuling, veterans who participated in the construction of the plant and some other guests will be invited to visit the plant, Li said.

Initially, the plant will be open only to domestic tour groups. However, details about future admissions will be worked out later, Li said.

After visiting the nuclear plant, Dong Guanzhi, a professor with the Tourism Development Research Center at the Guangzhou-based Jinan University, said the cave is "magical, mysterious and holy".

One of the things I heard before coming to China was how cheap things are here. It was proved right.

The other day I went to this optician's and got a pair of eyeglasses, which costed me 300 RMB. I was really pleased, because for about 40 USD (or 30 pound), you can hardly get the specs alone. So please am I that I showed off my bargain buy to my friends over the internet, saying they should come over here and there're so many cheap stuff around.

Then one of my friend sent me a link to a website, which sells eyeglasses at amazingly cheap prices. I am really impressed, because I saw a pair of eyeglasses similiar to the pair I bought, but at a cheap price.

The thing impresses me the most is that the site offers glasses as cheap as 8 USD, and I didn't think it would even be enough to cover the production cost, what's more, they look pretty good. If someone told me that it costed them 10 times as much buying a pair, I would've believed it. The eyeglasses in the picture is very similiar to the pair I got.

In the climate of a bad economy, this surely will save someone money to be better used elsewhere. To buy a pair as present to someone would also be a good choice.

You can simply go to the site and use the sort function to choose the prescription type and PD to find the kind of glasses that you want.

If you're not sure about how to read your prescription, then you can go to the page provided by Zenni here, if you're still not sure after reading the article, then you can simply call them up at regular business hours (9-5 Pacific Time, M-F) at this phone number: (1.800.211.2105)

For those that are wondering how Zenni can produce such cheap eyeglasses, here is their explaination:

Using the latest in modern materials, manufacturing and marketing systems we bring our product direct from our factories to you. With no "middlemen", no retail-space overhead, and practically no advertising budget(we leave it to you, our satisfied customers to spread the word about Zenni Optical), we do not pay for or sell expensive, or even inexpensive brand name frames, but only our own manufactured brand ZENNI.

It just shows that with globalization in full swing, the flow of the cheap goods are reaching every corner of the world, to some extend, we need to thank China for that.

I'm a netaholic, which is to say that I can not live without internet, literally. It's sad, I know, but it's the way many modern people live our lives. I'm sure that many share my view that internet is essential.

I do a lot of things online, to start off, i'm writing this blog piece over the internet; I also use the internet for checking emails, chatting to friends, keeping in touch with all those important people to me... Without the internet, i'd be truely lost. So thank you Mr Tim Berners Lee for kinda inventing such a wonderful thing.

While internet bring us convenience, sometimes it frustrates me. I have been to a few places in the world and have experienced some different broadband speeds among these places. Take that of Guangzhou, where I currently reside for instance, generally, everything works fine in the city, and I get everything done without a hitch, but when I go down to the surrounding villages some hundred miles off Guangzhou, it gets really bad. Many places do not even have an internet connection. How am I suppose to do with my life!

I recently came across this little site wild blue satellite internet service that offers some great services to people that might have had the same experience like I did. I do think it's great idea to offer this kind of service.

Please also take note that:

WildBlue broadband satellite service will be available only in the 48 continental United States due to the reach of our satellite signals. At present, we do not have plans to serve Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico.

What a shame!?If it were available to China, I'd definitely give it a go.
