I would also encourage you to go to Shanghai and have a look yourself, experiencing yourself the dynamism of this thriving Chinese city. Google blocked in China
It's official, Google is blocked in China (from time to time) after its move to be out of mainland China after negotiations with the Chinese government over the filtering of its search results broke down.
When Google first began its operations in China, it agreed and signed a contract with the Chinese government to filter some sensitive social and political search results. But after the high drama of accusing the Chinese government and its subsidies to hack into its gmail accounts to obtain Chinese activists information, along with the involvement of the US government, the world No.1 search engine has decided to end its search operations but said that it would keep its sales branch and R&D in China.

a few small things to know before going to China
here are a few small things you may want to know before makig your way to China:
1. you will not be able to use facebook, twitter and youtube in most of the country;
2. you need to prepare your own tissue paper at all times, as most of the public toilets here do not provide them.
3. be well prepared mentally, people here sometimes do not work well with queues, so don't let it get to you when people jump queues.
these are just a few minor things that you may want to keep in mind if you are planning to visit China.
